WELCOME to the JAPAN CONSUMER NETWORK ( JACONET )
The Japan Consumer Network or JACONET (formerly NCOS) was formed in 2003 in accordance with Act for the Promotion of Specified Non Profit Activities. Our members are all individuals who have an interest in global consumer issues. Our Board Directors are volunteers who donate their time/expertise.
NCOS’s primary aim was to promote the consumer interest in the standards making process, such as ISO and JIS (Japan Industrial Standards) through consumer representation on committees, seminars for consumers, and research. Since joining CI in 2006, we have broadened our scope of activities to include disseminating information in Japanese about global consumer issues, as well as promoting cooperation between Japanese consumer organizations and consumer groups throughout the world. In May 2015, our members voted to change our name to the Japan Consumer Network (abbreviated name: JACONET). Our new name reflects our wish to promote communication between consumers in Japan and other countries around the globe. JACONET’s activities will increasingly focus on international consumer issues, in addition to maintaining our work in the standards area. Since 2015, our research focus has focused on the emerging area of E Commerce and consumers, and in particular, Online Dispute Resolution (ODR). We have formed a research group to study ways to improve current ODR schemes. We hope this work will lead to important outcomes for all consumers.
